Empire Cherrywood Chest with Caryatids, ca. 1815

This beautiful antique chest of drawers is an Empire era piece from South Germany, dated around 1815. Made from solid cherrywood and with all its architectural details this is a perfect example of early 19th century neoclassical elegance with top craftsmanship.

It stands on four splayed feet and has a warm cherry veneer that runs continuously across the three drawer fronts. Ebonized edges and base give a nice contrast to the clean lines of the Empire style. The drawers are flanked by finely carved gilded caryatid figures and ebonized pilasters – classic motifs for strength and beauty.

Each drawer has a shield shaped ebonized escutcheon and comes with its original brass key. Inside the drawers are clean and well maintained with plenty of storage space and the piece is fully intact.

This has been fully restored and hand polished with shellac to keep its original look and finish. It’s stable and ready for use. Use it in a bedroom, hallway or as a statement piece in a living area this chest will give you timeless elegance and museum quality detail.
