Antique Chest of drawers – Late 18th Century Louis XVI Style in Solid Walnut
This beautiful antique chest of drawers from late 18th century France is Louis XVI style and made entirely of solid walnut. With its elegant proportions, carved details and patina this is a lovely piece of French neoclassical furniture.
The chest has 3 drawers each with intricate hand carved motifs and original gilt brass handles. The centre of the drawers are slightly raised to add depth and visual interest. The side panels are finished with traditional cassette frames to balance the structure. At the base the commode stands on a shaped curved apron with a beautiful carved shell motif – a nod to the craftsmanship of the time.
This has been fully restored and hand polished with shellac to give the surface a soft sheen while maintaining the antique character. The drawers run smoothly and all 3 box locks are working with the original keys included.
