An impressive, architecturally scaled ebonised pine library bookcase, crafted in the mid-20th century, combining rustic materiality with refined, minimalist design.
Executed in solid pine, the piece is finished in a deep black tone with subtle distressing, allowing the natural warmth of the timber to emerge along the edges and mouldings. This nuanced surface treatment lends depth and character, while maintaining a restrained and timeless aesthetic.
The upper section features four sliding glass doors, designed to accommodate books and curated objects within an elegant library setting. The light-toned interior provides a refined contrast, enhancing both visibility and presentation. The interior is fitted with discreet LED lighting, further elevating the display and atmosphere.
The lower section is enclosed with sliding wooden doors, offering generous concealed storage while preserving the cabinet’s clean horizontal rhythm and architectural balance.
Of particular note are the original recessed brass handles, characteristic of mid-century European functional design. Their understated, integrated form reflects a clear emphasis on utility, proportion, and material honesty.
The overall composition suggests a piece conceived as part of an interior architecture, aligning with mid-20th century ideals seen in Scandinavian and Central European design.
