Description

An exceptional set of four French Henri II style dining chairs, crafted in solid oak during the late nineteenth century and distinguished by their remarkable hand-carved figural back panels.

Each chair features a unique high-relief scene depicting rural and domestic life, framed within an architectural arcade inspired by the French Renaissance. The finely carved panels portray figures engaged in everyday activities, creating a charming narrative ensemble and showcasing the skill of the craftsmen responsible for their execution.

The robust oak frames are enriched with turned uprights, carved details and traditional stretchers, all characteristic of the Henri II Revival movement. The warm patina developed over more than a century beautifully highlights the depth of the carving and the quality of the timber.

The chairs retain their original leather-upholstered seats secured with decorative brass nailheads, providing both authenticity and period character. Their sculptural presence makes them equally suitable for use around a dining table, in a library, country house, château interior or as decorative accent chairs.

An attractive and increasingly rare set, combining artistic carving, historical charm and excellent craftsmanship.
