Description

An exceptional early 19th century Biedermeier secretary cabinet of architectural form, distinguished by its superbly figured mahogany veneer and refined proportions.

The cabinet is veneered in high-quality mahogany arranged in symmetrical bookmatched patterns, creating a dramatic flame figure across the fall-front and drawer fronts. The warm, honey-toned polished surface enhances the natural depth and movement of the grain, giving the piece a luminous and sophisticated presence.

The upper superstructure is architecturally composed, flanked by turned columns and crowned with a shaped cornice. A central panelled door conceals additional storage, maintaining the balanced and restrained façade characteristic of mature Biedermeier design.

The fall-front opens to reveal a meticulously arranged fitted interior with multiple small drawers and a central cupboard compartment. Inside the secretary, an extending pull-out writing surface lined in black leather provides an enlarged and stable working area.

A particularly noteworthy feature is the drawer positioned above the fall-front. When opened, it functions as an additional writing surface, also lined in leather — a refined and practical constructional solution that significantly enhances the usability of the piece.

Below are generously proportioned graduated drawers retaining their original escutcheons and period hardware. The cabinet stands on solid block feet, reinforcing its dignified and architectural character.

Professionally restored and conserved. The surface retains excellent clarity and depth, highlighting the exceptional quality of the mahogany veneer.

A sculptural yet highly functional statement piece, ideal for collectors of early 19th century Central European furniture or for refined classical interiors.
