Description

An exceptional early Biedermeier chest of drawers, dating to the first quarter of the 19th century. The piece is distinguished by its striking walnut veneer, displaying a rich, warm tone and beautifully arranged grain, creating an elegant and symmetrical façade across the drawer fronts.

The carcass is constructed in pine, typical for the period, and veneered in fine walnut. Subtle details such as ebonised stringing and escutcheons enhance the refined and restrained aesthetic characteristic of the early Biedermeier style. The chest stands on slender, tapered legs, giving the piece a sense of lightness and well-balanced proportions.

It features three generously sized drawers, fitted with working locks and keys. The interiors of the drawers have been finished with shellac, reflecting the high standard and attention to detail of the restoration.

The surface has been carefully hand-polished using traditional shellac, resulting in a deep lustre that beautifully accentuates the natural character of the wood.

The chest remains in very good condition, fully original, and ready for use. A fine and authentic example of early Biedermeier elegance and timeless design.
