This exquisite small commode, dating to around 1760, represents a refined example of the transition between the Baroque and Rococo periods. Crafted from fine walnut and adorned with elegant brass hardware, the piece captivates with its balanced proportions and sophisticated presence.
The rectangular form is enhanced by beautifully shaped, double-curved drawer fronts, fitted with original brass drop handles and escutcheons. The commode features three spacious drawers, each equipped with working box locks; three keys are included.
A striking feature is the top, decorated with intricate elm (Rüster) marquetry in a flowing, interlaced pattern, adding depth and visual richness. The warm walnut veneer displays a deep, natural tone, further elevated by a traditional hand-applied shellac polish that enhances the patina while preserving the historical integrity of the surface.
The piece stands on elegant ball feet, providing a subtle yet distinguished foundation. It has been carefully and professionally restored with respect for its age, maintaining its authenticity and original character.
