A fine German Biedermeier secretaire dating to circa 1825, distinguished by its elegant architectural form and beautifully preserved period cherrywood veneer.

The restrained design is characteristic of the Biedermeier period, with balanced proportions, softly rounded front supports with subtle vertical fluting, a moulded cornice and a distinctive stepped architectural top.
The fall-front opens to form a generous writing surface and reveals a particularly attractive fitted interior. Six small drawers are arranged symmetrically around a central open compartment, with additional curved-front drawers above. Carefully selected cherrywood veneers are used throughout the interior, including book-matched sections that emphasise the natural figuring and warm tonal variation of the timber.
The exterior comprises three full-width lower drawers and a further wide drawer positioned above the fall-front. Small ebonised escutcheons and knobs provide an elegant contrast to the warm golden tones of the cherrywood.
Of particular note is the exceptionally well-preserved, substantial period cherrywood veneer, displaying a rich and lively grain across the façade, writing surface and fitted interior. The depth and natural variation of the timber give the piece considerable visual character while retaining the restrained elegance associated with Biedermeier furniture.
The secretaire has been professionally restored with respect for its original materials, construction and character. A traditional hand-polished finish enhances the depth and warmth of the cherrywood while preserving the natural patina and character of the timber.
