Description

An exceptional French secrétaire à abattant dating to circa 1780, executed in the refined Louis XVI style. The piece presents an elegant architectural form and reflects the highest standards of 18th-century cabinetmaking.

The exterior is richly decorated with intricate marquetry in rosewood, palisander, and various fruitwoods, arranged in precise geometric compositions. The carcass is constructed in solid oak, typical for fine French furniture of the period.

The fall-front opens to reveal a carefully arranged interior with multiple drawers and a central architectural compartment. The cabinet also features a concealed secret compartment hidden beneath one of the drawers, demonstrating the sophistication and ingenuity of period craftsmanship. The writing surface is fitted with leather.

The lower section is enclosed by a pair of doors, also adorned with refined marquetry. The piece is surmounted by a marble top and complemented by finely crafted bronze hardware.

A rare and highly decorative example of Louis XVI furniture, combining elegance, functionality, and exceptional artisanal quality.
