Description

An elegant Northern European chest of drawers in the Gustavian style, dating to approximately 1800. This refined piece is a fine example of late eighteenth- and early nineteenth-century Neoclassical design, distinguished by its harmonious proportions, restrained architectural form and timeless elegance.

Crafted entirely from solid oak, the chest reflects the exceptional quality of traditional cabinetmaking. The robust construction, hand-cut dovetail joinery and original boarded back are all characteristic features of early craftsmanship, demonstrating the authenticity and durability of the piece.

The chest is fitted with three generously proportioned drawers, retaining their elegant brass handles and escutcheons, which complement the clean lines of the design. The surface has been professionally recreated during conservation, finished in soft antique white with delicate pale blue undertones. Carefully hand-patinated, it faithfully evokes the appearance of a well-preserved historic finish while respecting the character of the original furniture.

The piece has undergone a comprehensive professional restoration, ensuring excellent structural stability and smooth operation of all drawers while preserving its historical integrity. It is ready for everyday use and equally suited to both traditional and contemporary interiors.

A distinguished example of Northern European craftsmanship, this chest combines refined aesthetics with exceptional quality and timeless appeal, making it an elegant addition to any sophisticated interior or antique collection.
