Description

This exceptional Biedermeier dining table, crafted in Germany in the 19th century, is a superb example of timeless elegance and refined craftsmanship. The table’s construction is made from solid oak, while the surfaces are veneered with beautifully figured pyramid mahogany, showcasing the natural depth and warmth of the wood.

The table’s circular top, measuring 125 cm in diameter, rests on a finely carved central baluster base with three gracefully scrolled legs — a hallmark of classic Biedermeier design. The pedestal and apron are finished with a hand-applied shellac polish, imparting a deep, luminous gloss that highlights the rich mahogany grain and the artistry of its craftsmanship.

The table extends to an impressive 3.75 metres in length through five additional leaves, all original except for the newly crafted inserts, ensuring that the table can accommodate large gatherings while retaining perfect stability and proportion. The extension system, including the sliding mechanism, remains entirely original and in excellent working condition.

The tabletop and leaves are finished with a premium wood oil, chosen for its durability and ease of maintenance. The subtly satin sheen of the oiled surface beautifully complements the polished base, offering a refined contrast while providing greater resistance to everyday use, spills, and heat marks — ensuring both lasting beauty and practicality.

An outstanding and rare example of 19th-century German craftsmanship, this table combines historical authenticity with functional versatility. Elegant, original, and impeccably restored, it would make a distinguished centrepiece for any sophisticated interior.
