Description

An exceptional secretary desk from around 1820, crafted in Braunschweig. This elegant piece is made of birch and birch burl, veneered with fine pearwood.
The lower section features two large drawers and a writing flap. Behind the writing flap are eight practical drawers providing ample storage, complemented by an additional top drawer.
The upper section stands out with a central door adorned with detailed painting, flanked by two finely crafted alabaster columns. On either side are two additional doors, connected by gracefully curved arches. The profiled and tiered cornice enhances the grandeur of the piece. Inlaid diamond-shaped key escutcheons and elegantly tapered legs complete its sophisticated design.
This specific secretary desk has been documented in Wolfgang L. Eller’s well-known reference book on furniture, Biedermeier-Möbel, where it is described on page 236.
